Hotel Rating: The Residency Towers, Coimbatore
My only reason for visiting Coimbatore was to see what the Isha Foundation (a volunteer run organization that aims to bring physical, mental and spiritual well being to all people) looks like. I have been following Sadhguru (founder of Isha Foundation) for a few months and felt like visiting the center before enrolling in the internal technique course.
Since Coimbatore was already on the priority list, I thought I’d rather explore the city of Coimbatore for a few days. However, in the southern part of India, even if there are no interesting tourist attractions, the scenic beauty consisting of palm trees and beautiful temples is impressive enough.
When deciding where to stay in Coimbatore, the most important parameter I considered was how comfortable the hotel is and its proximity to the outskirts of town since you are where you will be exploring the region.
The Residency Towers Coimbatore, a 5-star hotel in the posh area of Avinashi Road, seemed like an excellent choice to stay in. I stayed there for 3 nights and can’t stop raving enough about the elegant hotel.
Accommodation
Those who have been following my blog for a while know that I have been associated with The Residency hotel group for a long time and have stayed at their beautiful hotels in Chennai and Pondicherry in the past. The residency experience is so amazing that I ended up staying at The Residency Towers in Coimbatore.
I stayed in the Club Premier Room with a city view. And there is one thing that amazed me the most. It was an incredible view from the room window. The room was the comfortable space I was looking forward to after a busy day. I stayed at the hotel for 3 nights and felt like staying longer thanks to the refreshing ambiance of the room.
Did I mention that the hotel is digitized? Yes, you can control the room temperature, TV, air conditioning, etc. from the one-touch device located in every room in the hotel. Well, that’s a feature that’s perfect for a couch potato like me. I can get hopelessly lazy if I don’t travel.
Amenities at Residency Towers Coimbatore
The hotel has an outdoor pool which I loved. There is also a large gym and spa to pamper yourself after a busy day. Luckily the gym was operational and I had a chance to burn off the extra calories I had consumed while staying at the hotel. Still, the food at the hotel (at various restaurants) is well worth the extra calories.
Additionally, if you need a haircut, you have access to a good one in the house. I used the service in the in-house salon and was satisfied. Just remember to make an appointment 2 hours in advance.
Dining at The Residency Towers Coimbatore
Dining at The Residency Towers, Coimbatore is undoubtedly one of the biggest highlights.
There are four restaurants at The Residency Towers Coimbatore.
pavilion
Buffet breakfast, lunch and dinner are served here. The food is tasty and flavorful. What I liked about their buffets was that they contained at least 3-4 authentic South Indian dishes each time
Must try – Medu Vada Sambhar (I had them every morning), Coconut Upma and Kesar Sevai.
Afghan Grill
The poolside restaurant deserves a visit for the unique flavors it offers alone. A leisurely dinner by the pool is absolutely enchanting. The restaurant opens at 7pm and they give you a lightbulb for your table which color you can choose – red, blue, white, green… I kept turning the light on to take better photos. There is no rush to eat and go. Just enjoy your time in the restaurant while feeling the gentle breeze and vague mist around the pool.
Must try – Galaouti kebab, chhena poda and baklava.
Good to know: Afghan Grill is one of the most popular restaurants in Coimbatore among kebab lovers.
Good to know: Chhena Poda is a cheese dessert from the state of Odisha. Interestingly, Hamid, the chef at Afghan Grill, hails from the state of Odisha. So you know what not to miss in the restaurant.
Chin Chin
If you love Asian food, Chin Chin is for you. When I entered the restaurant, I could feel the oriental atmosphere. The decor is elegantly designed around the oriental theme. Chin Chin is one of the best Chinese restaurants in Coimbatore and for good reason.
Must try – sushi and Malaysian cottage cheese.
Good to know: the dimsums there are actually momos, ie made from refined wheat flour instead of starch. Remember that. Still, they’re quite tasty.
bike & barrel
If you are staying in Coimbatore over the weekend, keep up to date with events such as live music, ladies’ night etc happening at the Bike & Barrel. In one of the hippest pubs in town, you can hit the dance floor with your friends and groove to the rhythm. The bar is open from Wednesday to Saturday.
Must try – cosmopolitan cocktail
Apart from these four restaurants, there is also The Edition Bar, an elegant library bar where you can relax and read your favorite book while indulging in good food and drinks.
Finally, there’s a small bakery called Krave in the hotel lobby that sells a variety of pastries, freshly baked rolls, loaves, and cakes.
Conclusion
Living right in the ritzy neighborhood of Coimbatore and enjoying an amazing view from your room is an advantage worth taking advantage of.
